How to Use Auto Number All to Order Your Rental Items


What This Is

The order number controls which products display first on your website.

Products with lower numbers appear first within their category and in your popular products section. For example, products numbered 1–4 are more likely to show first in the popular products area and at the top of their category pages.

So if you want a product to show higher on your website, give it a lower number.

The Auto Number All button lets you quickly clean up and reorganize the numbering sequence of your rental items.

This feature is located at:

Rentals → Rental Items → Auto Number All (top right)

The important part users misunderstand:

Auto Number All does NOT reshuffle your products when you do this for the first time.


It simply:

  • Looks at the current item order
  • Renumbers items sequentially based on that existing order

That means your current organization stays intact.


Example:

If your products are already arranged like this:

  1. White Bounce House
  2. Blue Water Slide
  3. Folding Chairs
  4. Tent Package

Auto Number All simply assigns clean sequential numbers following that exact arrangement.

It does NOT:

  • Alphabetize products
  • Randomize products
  • Reorder categories
  • Override manual sorting
  • Move products around

This makes it useful when product numbers become messy after adding, deleting, or rearranging items over time.


Steps

  1. Go to Rentals → Rental Items
  2. Review your current product order
  3. Click Auto Number All to assign clean numbers based on the order your products are currently in
  4. Adjust individual product numbers if you want certain items to appear higher or lower on your website

How It Works

Example before running Auto Number All:

  • Water Slide → #1
  • Chairs → #7
  • Tent Package → #19
  • Generator → #42

This often happens after years of editing inventory.


After using Auto Number All:

  • Water Slide → #1
  • Chairs → #2
  • Tent Package → #3
  • Generator → #4

The product order stays exactly the same.

Only the numbering gets cleaned up, and then you can adjust the #'s as you wish to have them display in the sequence you want.
