Adding a Credit Card Fee to Offset Processing Costs

What This Is

You can add a small percentage fee to credit card orders to help cover the processing fees charged by Stripe, Square, or your other payment processor. If you haven’t set up your payment processor yet, see: How to Connect Stripe or How to Connect Square

Steps

1.    Go to Website → Checkout Settings → Payment Configurations

2.    Find the Credit Card Fee or Processing Fee section

3.    Enter the percentage you want to charge (e.g. 3%)

4.    Save your settings

The fee will be added automatically to any order paid by credit card.

Things to Consider

• Check your state's laws on passing processing fees to customers — rules vary by state.

• Some businesses absorb the fee as a cost of doing business rather than passing it on. Choose wisely depending on your market.
