Why Pricing Looks Wrong at Checkout

What this usually means

The price shown at checkout comes from the way your rental item, delivery, tax, discount, and checkout settings are configured.

If a price looks wrong, the first step is to review the settings that control that charge.

Things to review first

1. Review the rental item price

Go to:

Rentals → Rental Items

Open the item and review how it is priced.

Check whether the item is priced by:

  • Day
  • Night
  • Hour
  • Time increment
  • Rental duration
  • Price option
  • Daily pricing

The checkout price will follow the pricing method selected for that item. For more help reviewing product pricing, see How to Add Pricing to a Rental Item.

2. Check the item’s price options

If the product uses price options, make sure the option names, prices, and durations match what you expect customers to select.

For example, if you offer a “Full Day” option, confirm that the price and duration reflect what “Full Day” means for your business.

3. Check rental duration or time increment pricing

If the product is priced by rental duration or time increment, review the time ranges carefully.

Make sure there are no gaps or confusing overlaps between your pricing tiers.

For example:

  • 0–24 hours
  • 24–48 hours
  • 48–72 hours

If the selected rental window falls into a higher pricing tier, the checkout price will increase.

4. Check dynamic pricing, if enabled

If dynamic pricing is enabled, review those settings as well. Dynamic pricing can change the price based on the rules you have configured.

5. Check delivery fees

Go to:

Rentals → Delivery Fee

Review how your delivery fees are set up.

Depending on your account, delivery fees may be based on zip code, distance, or another delivery rule. If a customer enters an address that falls into a higher delivery range, the checkout total may be higher than expected.

6. Check taxes

Taxes may be configured globally or by delivery area/zip code, depending on your setup.

Review your tax settings under your checkout and delivery settings.

If tax appears higher or lower than expected, check whether tax is being applied to the correct charges. For more detail, review How Taxes Are Applied at Checkout.

7. Check promo codes or discounts

If the customer used a promo code, confirm that the code was applied correctly and that the order meets the code requirements.

8. Place a test order

Place a test order using the same product, date, time, address, and promo code the customer used.

This helps confirm whether the total is being calculated based on your current settings.
